Chula Walk (จุฬาฯ วอล์ค)

Write to Raise Club with Sam Yan Press, and Chulalongkorn students from various faculties, together with Accessibility Is Freedom, have surveyed the area of ​​Chulalongkorn University starting from the front of Samyan Mitrtown, Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Faculty of Economics, Sala Phrakiao, Faculty of Engineering, and ended at the Faculty of Political Science. In this activity, students were travelling to explore various points and were allowed to try wheelchairs, including wearing a blindfold and using a walking stick to guide them, so that students can see problems that they had never considered before and realise the obstacles that people with disabilities must face in their daily life.

Opinions from students who have experimented with living with disabilities find that they have to face difficulties in travelling. The main problem comes from buildings and places that are inaccessible, such as pavements without ramps. Pavement panels for the visually impaired or ramps up some buildings that are steeper than the requirements. Toilets for the handicapped lack essential amenities, etc. All of these are the result of a lack of empathy for people with disabilities in their design and construction. Also, these conditions do not comply with the Ministerial Regulations.

ความเห็นจากนิสิตที่ได้ทดลองใช้ชีวิตแบบผู้พิการพบว่าต้องเผชิญความยากลำบากในการเดินทาง โดยปัญหาหลักมาจากอาคารและสถานที่ที่ไม่เอื้ออำนวยต่อการเข้าถึง ไม่ว่าจะเป็น ทางเท้าที่ปราศจากทางลาด แผ่นทางเท้าสำหรับผู้พิการทางสายตาที่ขาดตอน หรือทางลาดขึ้นอาคารบางแห่งที่มีความชันเกินข้อกำหนด ห้องน้ำสำหรับผู้พิการขาดสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกที่จำเป็น เป็นต้น ทั้งหมดนี้เป็นผลมาจากการออกแบบและการก่อสร้างที่ขาดความเข้าอกเข้าใจผู้พิการ และไม่เป็นไปตามมาตราฐานกฎกระทรวง

And from the inquiries from the Student Affairs Department, it was found that there are about 11 Chulalongkorn University students with disabilities, although not a large number. But everyone is part of this university.

และจากการสอบถามฝ่ายกิจการนิสิตพบว่า จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย มีนิสิตผู้พิการประมาณ 11 คน ถึงจะไม่ได้เป็นจำนวนที่มากนัก แต่ทุกคนก็เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งนี้

The organising team, therefore, asked everyone to question and demand this to, not just with the university but also with the system and structure that are unfavourable for the disabled from the beginning – including designing and enforcing laws that take people with disabilities into real consideration.
