Animal Welfare Literacy for Thai Society

At Sam Yan Press, we believe that fostering compassion, ethics, and critical thinking is essential to building a more just society. With our experience in publishing works on animal rights, environmental justice, and activism, we are launching a new initiative: Animal Welfare Literacy for Thai Society.

This project aims to educate and inspire Thai readers—from students to Buddhist practitioners—by translating and distributing key works that explore the ethical, philosophical, and practical dimensions of animal welfare and plant-based living.

Our Vision

  • Introduce philosophical and ethical discussions about animal rights into academic spaces.
  • Engage Buddhist communities with teachings that emphasize compassion toward all living beings.
  • Promote health-conscious and ethical lifestyles through plant-based advocacy.
  • Empower students and activists with resources to create meaningful change.

  • The Great Compassion: Buddhism and Animal Rights – Examining Buddhist teachings on compassion toward animals.
  • Food of Bodhisattvas: Buddhist Teachings on Abstaining from Meat – A key Buddhist text encouraging mindful eating and ethical choices.

➡️ Impact: These books will serve as foundational texts for ethics classes, Buddhist universities, and discussions on animal welfare in Thailand.

General Interest & Advocacy

  • The Plant-Based Athlete – A science-backed guide to nutrition and performance for athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
  • Ethics into Action – A powerful book on how to integrate ethics into activism and social movements.

➡️ Impact: These titles will be introduced in schools, public libraries, and advocacy programs to inspire new generations of changemakers.

Distribution & Engagement

We aim to make these books widely accessible by distributing them to:

  • Universities & Libraries – Targeting both general and Buddhist institutions.
  • Temples & Monastic Communities – Providing monks and practitioners with ethical teachings on animal welfare.
  • Public & School Libraries – Ensuring students and the public can access these resources.
  • NGOs & Advocacy Groups – Partnering with organizations to host workshops and discussions on ethical and sustainable living.

We are also planning events, workshops, and reading circles to further engage the public and build a stronger animal welfare movement in Thailand.

Why This Matters

Sam Yan Press has already laid the foundation for animal rights discourse in Thailand through:

  • ✔ Translation of Animal Liberation Now by Peter Singer – A landmark publication in Thai.
  • ✔ Support for Chulalongkorn University Animal Welfare Advocates – We have actively supported and helped establish one of Thailand’s first university-based animal welfare initiatives, fostering a new generation of student activists advocating for humane policies on campus and beyond.
  • ✔ Graphic Novels on History from Below – Collaborations with Prof. Marcus Rediker to publish illustrated works on historical activists.

By expanding our work with Animal Welfare Literacy for Thai Society, we hope to empower readers, activists, and educators to advocate for a more compassionate world.
