Freedom For All

At Sam Yan Press, we believe that the fight for freedom, democracy, and human rights transcends borders. Since our founding, we have committed ourselves to transnational activism, amplifying voices that challenge authoritarianism, censorship, and injustice across Asia and beyond.

Through publishing, translation, and cultural initiatives, we aim to bring critical discussions on democracy, oppression, and resistance to Thai and international audiences.

Our Commitment to Human Rights & Democracy

We have been at the forefront of publishing and promoting works that expose state oppression and advocate for freedom, including:

  • On Tyranny – A vital guide to resisting authoritarianism and protecting democracy.
  • The works of Liu Xiaobo – Honoring the legacy of the late Nobel Peace Prize-winning dissident.
  • The works of Ilham Tohti – Highlighting the plight of the Uyghurs and the fight against China’s repressive policies.

These books and translations have been instrumental in educating readers on human rights struggles, authoritarian tactics, and the importance of civic engagement.

Expanding Our Scope

Building on this foundation, we are committed to publishing:

  • ✅ Books on Chinese feminism – Exploring the resistance of women’s movements under an authoritarian state.
  • ✅ Stories of Myanmar refugees in Thailand – Shedding light on the struggles and resilience of those forced to flee military oppression.
  • ✅ The wrongness of the Cultural Revolution – Critically examining one of modern China’s most devastating historical periods.
  • ✅ A critique of totalitarian systems – Analyzing authoritarianism, propaganda, and political repression across different societies.
  • ✅ Cultural activities, including film screenings and artistic collaborations – Engaging audiences beyond books to foster dialogue through cinema, art, and public events.

Cultural Collaborations

🎥 Baturu Cultural Festival

Last year, we collaborated with the Baturu Cultural Festival, a 10-day event that took place across Bangkok, bringing together:

  • Artists and filmmakers from across the region to discuss women’s rights and activism.
  • A special lecture by an Indonesian filmmaker on freedom of expression in Southeast Asia.
  • Burmese art trainers who shared the role of creative resistance in Myanmar’s democracy movement.

This collaboration was just the beginning. We are actively working to expand our network, connecting with filmmakers, scholars, and activists across Asia to build a stronger transnational movement for freedom and justice.
